Jack Russell Terriers is one of my earlier pastel drawings and one of my first pet-portraits. In my new venture as a Wildlife and Pet Portrait artist, these little Jack Russells attracted lots of attention, helping me gain many commissions. Through the Jack Russells I met many friendly pet owners and lovely pets.

The history of terrier-like dogs dates back to ancient times. Pliny the Elder, in his Natural History, wrote that when the Romans invaded Britain in 55 B.C, they were suprised to find small dogs that followed their prey into its den or lair. Similarly, Marco Polo reported that of all the hunting dogs of the Great Khan, the most prized were the little terriers. The first true terrier was described in 1570 by the English physician John Calus of Cambridge. From that time on, canine history has been filled with stories of the terrier. Stories of its deeds, its magnificent temperament, and the beautiful varieties that have proliferated throughout the world.

The breed Parson Jack Russell Terrier was developed in the last century by an English clergyman, Parson Jack Russell. Similar to the fox terrier but with shorter legs, it stands about 9 inches (22cm) high and weighs 10 pounds (9kg). It has been used for hunting small game in its lair and was especially appreciated for the ability and rapidity with which it could burrow into even small holes. Courageous, devoted and obedient the Jack Russell is a good companion dog

My Jack Russell Terrier Cards are available with either a brown-coloured or a blue-grey background.
